Welcome to the worlds of Luminous Ages. Our story starts in the world of Ekratoria with a young farm boy, Thrakos, who is about to go on a great journey in his quest to become a magician, like his mother. Join Thrakos as he finds out what school of magic he belongs to, Capturveri, Luminary or Chosen and what this means for his future and that of the universe.

Luminous Ages is set in a reality that was built by dreams, and so has dreams and creativity at the core of its nature and magic. This also means that the Dream Plane and the lands within it, such as Ekratoria, are the most powerful and desired, with the material planes (such as Earth) as mere reflections.

The 13 Dragon Gods

At the core of the universe is 13 Dragon and Mage gods, who are each linked to a God /Dragon Artefact. Many forces are fighting for control of these Artefacts as it is said that if you gain control of an artefact then you can control its god and if you gain control of 7 of the 13 artefacts then you can control the Dream Plane and all of reality!

Locations

Currently, the majority of the Luminous Ages series has occurred on the planet Ekratoria, starting in the trading hub, Kiria and its surrounding farms. Ekratoria is one of the oldest and most magical planets.

Culture & Magic

The magic of Luminous Ages is divided into three schools, Chosen, Luminary and Capurveri, which school you belong to is inherent rather than elected but generally does show until late adolescence. Each school has its own unique way of translating creativity into magic. However, all mages can be identified by the markings that cover their bodies (or fur). All intelligent races can produce mages, even if they take the form of an animal but most are born in the Dream Plane. Sometimes these mages find their way to Earth where due to their incredible magic they are often mistaken for gods and goddesses or become legendary heroes.

Factions

The mages of Luminous Ages are generally expected to pledge their loyalty to one of two factions. The Tranquil alliance is devoted to ensuring peace for the universe and most view them as good but stuffy. The Nightmare in contrast are devoted to destruction and greed, basically villains. In recent years the Nightmare have become very active in their search for the God Artefacts. This has led both to become very active in recruiting or corrupting young mages. Young mages’ magic is very unstable and without help it can be very traumatic, so most join one of the factions in response to the help they receive during this period.

Order of Books

  1. Luminous Ages the Graphic Novel - Volume 1. Follow Thrakos as he learns of his magical heritage and makes new friends.

  2. Tavern of Dream. This illustrated novel and anthology takes place after the events of the first book but focuses on the mysteries of a small tavern our heroes stop off at on their journey.

  3. The Bai Ze and the Book of Monster. This comic anthology and 5e campaign book. This volume is the first to look in depth at the connection between Ekratroria and Earth with a focus on the legends and monsters of Chinese Mythology.
