Raiju - The Storm Comes
The Raiju is a major character in the popular series, Luminous Ages by award winning fantasy artist, Anthony Christou. It was important to Anthony that his series show that animals and not just humans can be powerful wielders of magic. Nature and the affect people have on it is an important part of the story for Anthony and to better show this he created multiple important characters as animals such as cats, foxes, tigers and wolves.
Raiju is inspired by the creature of the same name from Japanese Mythology where it was often depicted as a blue wolf which was made of lightning and sounded like thunder, although it can also appear as other popular Japanese animals such as dogs, tanukis or foxes. The companion of the Shinto god of lightning, Raijin, the Raiju is normally a peaceful creature but during thunderstorms it becomes agitated and starts causing destruction.
