THOTH: THE ALL KNOWLEDGEABLE ONE
Thoth often thought to be one of the most important of the Ancient Egyptian gods. He is associated with wisdom, writing, hieroglyphs, science, magic, art, judgment, and the dead. He is also associated with equilibrium and balance between order and chaos. Since in his Ape form, Aani he is often seen helping his wife Ma’at weight people’s hearts on a scale after they have died. He is often compared with the Greek god Hermes, however unlike Hermes who was considered a trickster Thoth was a very serious and reliable god.
Thoth is often depicted in ancient artworks as having the head of an ibis. However he can also be found with a Baboon head or in the form of an Ape since all three creatures were considered sacred to him.
This artwork was created by award winning fantasy artist, Anthony Christou after researching Egyptian mythology and it’s connections with Greek mythology. It was created as a concept artwork for future books in his popular epic fantasy series, Luminous Ages.
